What myths about health/body are people the most stubborn about holding on too, despite the lack of any evidence to support them? by BriMcCin AskReddit

It doesn't have sperm, or at least the science is out on it (unless it's precum for coming a second time).

Short but interesting article criticizing Tina Fey's particular brand of feminism. What do you ladies think? by TheIdiotsGeniusin TwoXChromosomes

To be blunt, yes. If you are interested in my explanation, read my response to discworldian. However if you don't bother reading it, then don't bother replying.

One sign that women have equal cultural power as men would be that representations of women are accurate, and controlled/written by women.

Tina Fey writes her character, and while we feminists might not agree with everything that comes out of her mouth, the fact that it is Fey writing, from her LIVED EXPERIENCE, makes her character a true representation of a very common type of woman.

We often argue for better representation of minorities in media - but does it count if, on a show that used to have four guys and one girl, the male writing staff is forced to write for four guys and four girls? Or what about white writers who have no experience of Asian culture trying to write Asian characters? That is not true diversity, nor true representation of that type of person.

Perhaps you disagree with some things that Liz Lemon says - understandable - but she is also a fairly spot-on character that is written by a woman from that group in society, and is the lead in one of the most popular network shows. I would call that a cultural victory for feminists.

The author compares Tina Fey to other female comediennes who came before her, with the unstated expectation that Fey should advance a version of feminism just as well if not better than her foremothers. Just because she is female, she is supposed to be the same?

Joan Rivers is held up as a feminist humor icon - but the author is cherry-picking. From the SAME ACT that's excerpted, Rivers has this joke:

"I spit on female education. Girls don't need to go to school. I'll tell you one thing: a man never put his hand up a woman's dress looking for a library card."

Comedians are not meant to prove the points that their viewers agree with; they are just supposed to be funny. Margaret Cho crosses that line of activism, queer theory, and feminism, but that is because those are her personal interests - not every comedian has to do so.

Tina Fey IS a bit classist, and does judge other women on their sexuality. However, hers is a mainstream stance that is a fair representation of how many women feel. The fact that that stance is represented by Fey is a feminist victory.

Professional - I am a hostess at a bar. So it's to be expected.

In general, I've found that if you need to interact with women though, they want you to say everything with a smile - even if it's easier to just get shit done without worrying about what the other person thinks or if they're offended or what their feelings are doing at the moment. I've found that a lot of women are overly sensitive, compared to my levels of emotional sensitivity. It is annoying.

I am tired. I think I'm just in a bad mood. Sorry to spill my negativity all over Twox
