Robert Reich to new college grads: "You're f*cked." by ratlaterin economy

[–]lampost86 0 points1 point ago

I am 26, I've been in school for nine years, will be graduating in May (at 27) with my BBA in Supply Chain Management and only recently started working in an SCM related field. Believe me, I know what you're going through. Some great men have made their fortune later in life. There's not really a set timeline oh how to do things or when to do them - everyone has their own path and the best analysts in the world have no idea how tomorrow is going to unfold. I know that sounds like some fortune cookie mumbo jumbo but it's the truth. Be smart, look for opportunities, if you can't find them, make them. Read about the world around you, talk to people, network (can't be stressed enough), hustle. Those are the things you're going to have to do if you want to make it in this world today and moving forward - that's the only guarantee anyone can make you.

Don't just waste money on your education if you don't know what you want to do. Work for a bit, travel maybe, have some adventures, create meaning and purpose in your life if you don't have any.

You're not alone. What did you study?

No... you aren't necessarily. I mean, it's tough, but you're telling me a history major is going to have the same difficult as accounting? Give me a break. If EE majors are having a hard time getting internships it's because there is some other factor inhibiting them.

Liberal arts degrees are not the only degrees that teach one how to learn. The whole purpose of education is not just learning, but learning how to learn, irrespective of what you are learning. Moreover, there are different ways to learn different subjects - "learning" is not as one-dimensional as you make it out to be.

I didn't say there's no value in those degrees, I was merely stating that the job market is better for some degrees than others, i.e., engineering/science/business/math vs liberal arts/social sciences/humanities.

Obviously there are exceptions

You're the exception mate, not the rule.

bill more an hour than your sorry ass

Fuck off, once again.

What is wrong with you? How is this a way to respond/speak to someone? Use some of that income you "bill" and get yourself some manners.

Yes, over half of recent college grads are having a hard time finding work. The truth is, the majority of them aren't the ones who majored in engineering, computer science, accounting, biochemistry, and like majors, or went off to graduate school straight afterwards. It's the ones who majored in liberal arts, the ones who thought it would be a good idea to get a degree in art, history, english literature.

Obviously there are exceptions and there are plenty of degrees I did not specify.

Interesting. I've actually thought about math during exercise before. I'll see a shape for example and try to determine its area or volume; really weird.

Coach could have told someone with authority; not a ref. You really think putting bounties on top of bounties is the solution?
