Start with heavy compound lifts like squat, bench, pull ups, deadlift and so on. When you get stronger, then start doing isolation movements like curls, skullcrushers, cable crossovers, and others.

If you're skinny and weak, doing 5 sets of curls or any other isolation exercise won't help. You'd just be wasting your time and energy.
