"graduating in the class of 2012" would put her between the ages of 16-17. Do your facebook/youtube research next time "brah"

I just graduated high school and will be going into a 6 year program in Ohio for pharmacy. This question has come up a lot. The university has told us that as we will be in the work place in 6-7 years we will be ok. But yes, it will get saturated. 5 short years ago companies were giving $50,000 signing bonuses, paying off loans etc. There is none of this anymore, the void is closing. Pay should not be a factor, and if anything will increase as pharmacists are moving in a more clinical direction (now being certified to give immunizations etc.) 10 years from now, you will be able to get a job, no worries. It may not be like today when a pharmacist can quit his/her job today and have another in any state tomorrow, but there are out there. Best of luck if your a fellow pharmacy student. Great career choice!

Hey yet again lol. As for the competitive aspect, its pretty rigorous. ONU has openings for 70-80 freshman to enter their 6 year pharm-d program. This year about 1300 QUALIFIED applications were sent in. Like i said down below, a 4.0 doesn't help you when 500 other kids have it, do something outside school to set yourself apart. Feel free to pick my brain for any other info!

Hello again, I just graduated high school and will be attending ONU next year for pharmacy. ONU is currently the no 1 pharm school in the US, (it goes back and forth between them and a California school). My biggest piece of advice is GET INVOLVED. I got into the best school and i graduated 7/104 with a 3.7 gpa. Not awesome, but not bad. What got me in? Peoples skills and i volunteer A TON. Pharmacy is currently moving to a more clinical realm with patients, ie pharmacist now giving immunizations. Having a 4.0 isnt what you need, just be involved, and keep up the studying. Also, as a bit of a plug, if your serious totally check out ONU, its reputation itself is all you should need to look into it. BEST OF LUCK!!!

To be a practicing pharmacist i would assume? To be a practicing pharmacist in the United States you will have to complete either a 6 or 8 year Doctorate of Pharmacy program. At the conclusion of this, you will need to pass your boards, which will allow you to practice in the United States. As a side-note, any college that offers a 1 or 2 year "pharmacy-tech" school is a rip off. You require NO schooling to be a tech. Maybe recommended, but not required. Save your money.

No way to reallly boost your time. Everything at CVS goes into a quoe. First entered first served. Simple as that.

as a future pharmacy student next year, i would say im not against it. There are a bunch of effects, not necessary negative, like not being able to sleep for the next day, dry mouth etc. From what ive "heard" (nudge nudge) its non habit forming, and VERY easy to purchase, pretty cheap. Like 2 bucks for 15 mg.

Hate to burst your bubble, but i think the pharmacist is right. Most things you will have the option of buying are (NSAIDS) Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs. There's really nothing magical in them to help help, just suppress the nervous system.

nice, can you practice with pharmacy as a major? Where are you from? US here, and its a doctorate to practice, not a major.

strictly by the book. Not trying to be an ass. Its the pharmacist job to make sure anything taken out of his/her pharmacy is going to be used properly.

I would say because of its potential for abuse. Coming from a VERY small school i can say that the desire is there. About the time finals week comes rolling around you can get $20 bucks for some 15's. Its crazy how many people are hooked on the stuff.

In some cases it allready is happening. In our local hospital we have a large room that is the equivalent of a med snack dispenser. As the order is emailed it, the med is released, and a laser makes sure the correct amount of meds fall down. Crazy stuff, but fun to watch. Pharmacist just has to refill machine.

Speaking as a cvs pharm tech the pharmacist's job is almost all pharmacy. I was essential the Pharmacist's bitch, having to pick EVERY FREAKING med off the shelf, count it all out, answer the phone etc. In case you are wondering, the ONLY thing the pharmacist MUST do is approve the prescription. For example, when our pharmacists goes on break, the techs can do everything except seal the bags, as it must be looked over for accuracy by the pharmacy. After seeing all of this is decided to go to school for my phram-d. I wanna be the guy in charge lol.
