San Diego Symphony plays to silent films. That is awesome.

Ultimately classical music is facing an energy gap. I go to a Kanye West show and the songs are 3-5 minutes and have tons of lights, stage presentation, etc. The music is constantly changing. There is something to look at too. It's a multisensory experience. If a song is exciting I can dance, cheer, enjoy myself. You go to the symphony and you get an hour or two of sitting quietly, looking at a non-changing stage, through 15 minute long songs. Even during an "exciting" song the most you are allowed to do is applaud somewhat enthusiastically. It's like asking why the library isn't a fun place to be.
