Seconded. All Canadians in this thread should start with "fuck diefenbaker", not sorry.

I'm travelling from Canada to the US this summer and need advice about flying with DE blades by Rappmandooin wicked_edge

[–]betelgeux 0 points1 point ago

The tsa opened one of my checked bags when I when to Portland from Calgary a few years ago. My blades, razor and straight edge were fine. I have flown a couple of times since with just blades and a shavette and not had an issue.

Decided to get a Reel Mower....but it sucked by justateburritoin oldschool

The stock sharpening was borderline at best on my lee valley mower. Got the Scotts sharpening bar and it made a huge difference.

Not sure what the quality of the fiskar's brand is though.

It does take time to get the hang of it as well.

Excellent! Now Sony can sue anyone else who tries to do in game advertising!

Body work (the non-cutting part) can be done with standard buffing techniques as long as you NEVER overheat the metal. I run at 500 rpm on green chrome polish and even then I check constantly to ensure that I'm not creating hot spots. Vibratory polishers are safer but unless you are doing a lot of these it's not cost effective.

I use a variety of paper and polish but for hand work I start at 400 Wet sandpaper, and then 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 (look at autobody stores) and then move on to polishing compounds to get the last stage "pop".

Not as bad as I feared but still...

Axe - I hope that's only there for the tourists.

Hey /r/PipeTobacco, what's a story you have from smoking in public? Funny looks? Interesting comments? Do share! by Dram88in PipeTobacco

[–]betelgeux 0 points1 point ago

In Cuba I got everything from "Ganja? " to "a pipa??? " when I took it out and followed closely by almost everyone savoring the scent and asking a ton of questions.

It just amused me that I'm a lone pipe in the land of cigars and I'm the center of attention.

Why is there barely any activity on r/oldschool? by justateburritoin oldschool

Nice and thanks.. I wish I could get this sub to /r/wicked_edge 's level but I don't have the time right now. Some of the projects are nearly complete so I might be working the hell out of this one soon.

Even if it doesn't go big, it's nice to have a little spot for us to hang out.

While not daily, hand tools. Yes, I have power tools for repetitive tasks but I prefer using unpowered tools.

There is something very zen about taking a hand plane to a rough piece and making the surface almost glasslike. A result that you just cannot get any other way. And 6 foot long shavings are neat!

Tough to keep a glue intact with those stresses. (heat/moisture cycle) not to mention the wood itself.

I've been buried with a few side projects in the real world and haven't had time to promote this like I have with /r/wicked_edge.

Promoting a sub is a two-fold operation. Generation of fresh content and mentioning it in relevant discussions in other subs. (/r/askreddit is great for this). Crossposting works but not as well.

Found this while Geocaching. Maybe a bomb? by Flowtosin WTF

Doesn't need a good firing mech, some explosives go unstable with time and require almost no interaction to blow.

Call the police if you haven't already. A WW2 vintage bomb in your area is very likely the real thing. This isn't a "when you get around to it" kind of thing.
