Doesn't it seem like we're all sheep on a tax-farm? by JamieKlingerin montreal

There's nothing wrong with being sheep on a tax-farm as long as we are also the shepherds.

When the street is filled with people marching with pots and pans, the smart thing to do would be to turn off your engine and relax for five minutes. Reflect on why there are so many people on the street and just enjoy the break. Trying to drive through a crowd is incredibly dangerous for the people and incredibly stupid for the well-being of your car.

Student Protest subreddit by dfawltin montreal

[–]JamieKlinger 8 points9 points ago

We have a completely unused one for Occupy. And let's face it, the student movement is biggest thing that's happening to Montreal in as long as I remember. Don't try to segregate it into its own subreddit, this helps nobody...UNLESS you're trying to grow it to a worldwide level...Are you trying to do that? Cause you should start by gathering interest from those outside of Montreal.

And you should also consider, calling it the 'student movement' at this point is also smaller than it is. This is far and wide a social movement that was precipitated by the student movement.

Part of me predicts that Jean Charest and the student leaders will agree on tuition, Loi 78 will be repealed, and people will celebrate jubilantly in the streets thinking they've won a battle. by kylemacmacin montreal

If things were neat and tidy life would be a bow.

But as corruption screams with violin(t) rings,

The earliest children go to bed.

"Mother mother, answer me"

It's time and she knew it was so.

To tell her baby the way of the world,

The world he would get to know.

Filled with lies, deceit and treachery,

It was a world fit for a slave.

A world looking dandy,

But secretive and scantily,

It was filled with poison unto the core.

It's about a government that doesn't listen (except to the mafia), that destroys our environment and pays Chinese companies to do it, about a media in the pocket of the rich, trying to play the students off as 'greedy' when the vast majority of them won't even benefit financially if the government backs down.

There have been a few good articles lately that explain the deeper causes but I'm having trouble finding them in the mess of articles and videos I watch related to it. Feel free to facebook stalk me for information on the strike, my page is effectively dedicated to it.

I'll say it over and over, watch a full stream. Follow a peaceful march for an hour, see how everything is going fine, people are joyful, chanting, expressing themselves and then...all of a sudden...not so much anymore.

The impression you are under is false as per the report of my friend who attended. He said that he witnessed CUTV attacked, then a few 'projectiles' were thrown, and then police surrounded several hundred people, he narrowly escaped the kettle.

Watch CUTV videos and you'll see how little it takes for people to have their rights taken away. If people were actually pelting rocks at the cops...That's a whole 'nother story...but that isn't this one.

Seriously, watch more CUTV livestream uncut videos (or if you're in Montreal, I'd be happy to attend a protest with you and introduce you to some people who have been unjustly abused by police).

I can't prove it's literally one percent of people being violent, creating graffiti, blocking classes...I just know that those groups have always been relatively small.

Actually, they kettled a group of peaceful protesters last night. You can see that one water bottle is thrown in the general direction of the police. 400 people were arrested. Is that how it should be? Guilty by association because someone threw a waterbottle near the police? Really?

When you have unruly young "adults" disrupting classes, vandalizing, committing violent acts, etc., there is going to be a much more active police force.

You're lumping all the protesters together. A literal 1% are involved in vandalism and disrupting classes, and throwing things at the cops. The vast majority just want to be heard. So repress everyone and let the cops sort 'em out?

As for the tiny photo of the so-called molotov, follow the situation live on CUTV for an hour before and then judge. Seriously, watch [CUTV](cutvmontreal.ca) tonight. Or watch a broadcast from a few days ago. Or yesterday. Watch more than a 3 minute clip and follow along in the protest. It's so easy to judge the extremes on both sides. Most are moderates.

'take away credibility' or 'lamify' the video? Cause they shouldn't do both.

Longer video. List of youtube videos tagged CUTV in order of upload date.

Find me video of either of these. Find me video where people are marching along candidly, chanting pleasantly, and they throw rocks at the police. What was reported as "Molotov cocktails" were actually empty beer cans according to people standing at the front line (four days ago when they reported molotovs).

I refuse to believe the police are 'on edge'. There has been minimal instigation versus the police (an odd water bottle thrown, pebbles). They are not afraid for their lives. The people getting shot with rubber bullets, with large projectiles from massive guns...The protesters fear for their well-being and their lives.

The police 'on edge' is propaganda for the citizens to as they say in French, "Travail! Consomme! Et ferme te guelle!" (Work! Consume! And shut your mouth!)

The protests have all been passive UNTIL police intervention. That's when the violence happens. If the police didn't block streets, run into people, hit the media that covers the WHOLE event live, and again right before the kettle...There would be less anger towards the police state.
