Well there's your problem. You are suppose to throw discs, not tomahawks.

The TED Talk on Inequality was just released by evlukein videos

[–]BeckTheCrusader 0 points1 point ago

In his talk he is not saying that VC's are not needed. He is saying that they are not the job creating power houses that they would like to believe.

I think what he was trying to state, albeit with limited success, is that the Investment component of GDP is currently considered the job creation mechanic and thus elevated above all else as supreme to an absurd degree.

Entrepreneurs of Reddit, what is your product? by capitalletterin Entrepreneur

I own a small company that specializes in doing engraving on monuments, tombstones, in cemeteries. I primarily engrave a person's death date onto their monument.

I have also developed a way to repaint monuments that are in cemeteries in about 30 minutes.

I am finalizing the designs of a machine that is a hydraulically powered mobile crane platform. It will be used by monument companies, utility companies, and construction companies. Primarily, though, it will be used by monument companies.

Why is there so much negativity on this sub reddit? by dawiz25in RealEstate

[–]BeckTheCrusader 1 point2 points ago

I think you made the OP's point. There is always a way to offer constructive comments without ripping on someone. Perhaps this Sub Reddit can build an intro guide or list of resources for the newer folks to read. That way they can then ask the right questions and carry on a "smart" conversation.

Am I the only PF player that wants 5E to succeed? by BeckTheCrusaderin rpg

Yeah I don't see my group changing from Pathfinder as our main for sometime as well. We are making a concerted effort to work through all of Paizo's pre-written campaigns.

Can you point me to a specific spot? I am looking at it and not sure where to start.

Thanks

The title was more to get people to read.

As I read over a lot of the content on different forums, it was mainly being discussed by 4E gamers, gamers that primarily play 4E, and I wanted to get gamers that play, primarily, other games. If Wizards only hears from 4E players then that will be the primary shaping of whatever is Crowd Sourced. I don't want the voice of others to be left out.

...They can take our lives but they can never take our GEEKDOM!

[–]BeckTheCrusader[S] 1 point2 points ago

... I am not sure what the latter is. Is that a disease that I am not aware of?

But yeah I prefer PF because I feel like I can custom build the character that I want and see in my mind. Not just the combat but the social and intellectual aspects of my characters. Like having a character that attended school and learned Knowledge Engineering, has 1 rank in it, and after that is not going to further learn it but will apply what he knows to the improvement of the defenses at the local fort or something.

4E was an edition of broken promises. There are things that they came up with that are good for the game and things that were steps backwards.

But I think that Wizards has seen the error in their ways with the desire to Crowd Source 5E. It was very successful for PF and Paizo.

Well said. That is what I would like to see as well. A system that PF and 4E players can agree on if not always play.

Yes, they very much stay within the current system. That isn't what I like about them. I like the ability to boost abilities. I was thinking that a way to keep powers but change them would be to have spell points and stamina points. The spell points system would look similar to psionics but instead of having individual spells you would have "Spell Forms", or something, and within each form there are several spells. Example, Fire Form has a lvl 0 Flame Touch (1d4 ranged touch), Burning Hands, Scorching Ray, and Fireball. At 1st level the wizard gets Fire Form but can cast all of the spell in the Fire Form until they get higher level. The Fighter would have similar Combat Forms. They would look similar to feat trees. Example Mighty Swing Form, Power Attack, and Cleave and something. The Fighter could expend 1 Stamina Point to use Power Attack for a round or use 2 points to use Cleave and maybe get the benefits of PA for free.

I don't know. I like the idea of the Powers system but I don't like the at will, encounter, daily, utility categories. I would rather see resource management come in different forms.

I didn't think about the competition element of it but you are dead right about that. A monopoly is rarely the best thing for the end consumer. Us.

That's great. I am happy to have you not agree. I am just interested in getting the PF people in on the conversation.

Yeah I have. I like it a lot.

I think there may be something to that system that could be used to modify the powers system. I am still working on that one in my brain.

Young guy thinking about starting a tea store. Anyone with exp. in specialty retail have any advice or experiences to share? by jesuserin Entrepreneur

[–]BeckTheCrusader 2 points3 points ago

I agree with everyone on here with the idea of the shop.

But, the money is a real stick here. What is it going to cost to start up? What is the rent going to cost? Length of lease? Cost of utilities? Deposits for all of these? If it is in the mall, which I think is a great idea, what are the required hours of operation? How many employees are you going to have to have? How much inventory are you going to be required to carry?

You mentioned that you are working on a business plan. That is fantastic. Doing that alone will force you to become aware of many elements of starting a business.

In my none expert opinion, I think you have a fantastic idea. But take my words with a grain of salt, or a leaf of tea? (Does that work?)

Facebook, I know it is cliche. But, if you can get people from here or do your advertising on facebook and get the "clickers" to Like you then you have access to them on a regular and free basis.

Take this with a grain of salt though. I am trying this on my website and it is starting slow. Others likely have a lot more insight and instruction on how to do this.

I strongly second the SCORE recommendation. I have worked with a local officer where I live on some patent work that I was working on.

The best thing that you can do, op, is to be straight with anyone that you go to with your idea. Don't sugar coat it, tell them exactly what the risk, as you see it, is. They are going to try to poke holes in what you show them and if you show them the holes ahead of time then they have the information to say yes or no, not well... let me think on it.

Paying employees salary vs. hourly? by genervillein Entrepreneur

[–]BeckTheCrusader 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The profit sharing vs "loss" sharing can be represented in hourly just the same as a traditional profit sharing structure. If the times are slow then he works fewer hours, and if the times are bumping, then he works more and collects mad overtime. And I would disagree with hourly being temporary, the consistency of the work and the quality of the work environment is what will determine the longevity of his stay with your father's firm.

If your father would like to offer long term benefits, then offer a way for his worker to purchase shares within the company, or to become a partner in the company in a few years or so. That, I feel, is a better way to "repay" the new clients that the employee is bringing in. That will also make it harder for him to leave and take all of his clients with him and start a competing firm.

Just my 2 cents.

That is fair. I appreciate your insight. There are times when I forget that not every family discusses monument, tombstone, design over dinner.

Thank you. I am going to work on the SEO of the website over the weekend.
