Ships of the Desert. by UrinalCakesin pics

It wasn't uncommon way back in history that military dumbasses would confuse temporary rivers from a rainy season or unexpected rainfall with established rivers. They'd go up them, then the river would dry up, and then they're screwed.

Calc. review for differential equations by nebulosisin EngineeringStudents

[–]Aerik 1 point2 points ago

well, how many semesters did you take of calculus? usually there's 3.

At the college you're about to take , go to their website. Any helpful college website in the class search there will actually be an outline of the content you're expected to learn. Read 'em. Can you do all that?

I gotta say though, I just filled out a notebook full of notes from watching MIT OCW's differential equations playlist, all of dr chris tisdell's differential equations playlists, and even khan academy's playlist on DE's. It's really not that bad. It seems most professors don't seem to expect you to do real complicated shit, just know a lot of knowledge that explains why DE techniques work, where they fail and why.

I remember when I took calculus at my community college in 2005. The teacher said the fastest path would be calc I and linear algebra concurrently, then calc II and differential equations concurrently, then calc III and whatever advanced application of math courses you want to start taking (such as 'engineering calculus'). Unfortunately this same college requires you pass calc III before you can take DE, but because of the math teachers' attitudes I'm betting students can get around it with their help. But anyways, that outline gives you a basic idea of the difficult involved. Not really severe. I've had fun, really.

It seems that the most important skills you're going to have is recognizing the product rule in reverse when you see it at a glance, integration by parts, and, most horrendously, partial fraction expansion. Probably the hardest algebra skill there is to apply in the middle of a calculus problem. And of course it will help to study up on trig. identities in calculus context. It may help tremendously if you recognize a messy integral is an inverse tangent rather than trying to expand or integrate by parts.

Now you can spend time on the internet every day going to youtube.com/mit and watching the course, OR, go to the pirate bay and look up "mit 18.03" and downloading the entire video series, plus: the professor's given homework problems and solutions, class notes created by a student, notes from the teacher, class syllabus, copies of the exams and solutions, "recitations," (you just have to see), and more supplamentary notes. WIN!!

Print and organize that shit. Practice the exercises. Punch holes in the paper (may have to adjust margins on printout), put in a 3 ring binder with your notebook. Done.

This is what I do with all the subjects I'm learning, including textbooks I've downloaded and taken notes on. It's good to print out chapter reviews, the most important images, and the tables/tutorials in the covers.

It's been a week, so of course it's time for another random attack on rebecca watson. This time, more sexism in country B means sexism in country A doesn't exist! and women in country A are just bitches! by Aerikin againstmensrights

[–]Aerik[S] 0 points1 point ago

Originally it wasn't even the podcast. It started a week before that.

She was still at the convention hotel, and she made an 8 minute video describing everything that went on. In the very last minute and a half she told, in an almost bored sounding voice, the story about the elevator turd. She was calm, didn't call him any names or anything, didn't even bring up rape or anything of the sort. Just said, "guys, don't do that." And asked that men try to consider how vulnerable women may feel in an elevator, alone, in a foreign country, after drinking, at 4 am. That was it.

The shitstorm was immediate. She would've preferred not to ever have to bring it up again, much less on the podcast, but she was already getting hate mail and hate videos by the time she got back into town to even help discuss the next episode's contents.

Look at this shit everybody. AryoBarzan spewed a bunch of bigoted bullshit in another subreddit, derailed conversation, and got banned for it. Now he follows around the mod that banned him and brings it up in other subreddits, forcing everybody else to have to listen to his temper tantrum, like some petty ex-significant-other who brings up fights from the past in public just to shame the person.

I suggest another banning, as he's not interested in participation in the community and is attempting to derail your own threads.

Actually even that doesn't matter. kegal muscles can only change anything when they're being used.

The myth being invoked is that the vagina walls lose elasticity. That the resting position of the walls tends to be further and further apart as they lose elasticity.

None of it is true. The vagina always 'closed'. It's not like a bag or something. There's no room in there. That's precisely why women can get yeast infections. If what these MRAs believed were true, yeast infections would decrease with sexual activity. Truly they are morons.

AryoBarzan clearly has a thing for "gape porn," and this has been little more than aryo trying to convince himself that he can perform, and making excuses for his failure.

puh-lease. Maybe you're so busy feeling sorry and paranoid for yourself you make creepy body language every time you're around kids, ever think of that?

And your "experience" doesn't speak for every one.

I play with random strangers kids all the time. Just today, playing in the public pool with my 5yo nephew, a 5yo girl came up and grabbed my arm, stood on my knee, and wanted me to carry her around. And I did. and nobody gave a flying fuck.

I've helped several lost kids in the park find their parents (who are usually just 15 feet away, but it's crowded and kids are short). Nobody ever looks anything but grateful.

Other people's kids ask me to help them on the monkey bars b/c they think I teach it better after they see me helping my nephews.

Now, do I live in a different place? Hardly. These experiences happen in many parks, spreading across a piece of my state 50 miles wide. Each a different community.

and each time I've also seen other adults interact with other people's kids.

So you know what? You're just a whiney ass privileged dude who only remembers the 'hits' for your prejudice, and forget all the 'misses'. And you should STFU. And grow up.

IWTL basic Mechanical Engineering. by Water_Buffaloin IWantToLearn

[–]Aerik 0 points1 point ago

if your professors are trolls like mine, the formulas will often seem like they involve integrating a 4th order differential equation

So far the only DE of any difficulty I've seen is the elastica. Second order nonlinear. And hopefully in the field you piece it together with some other thing, form a system of DE's and the only pain is eigenvalues and eigenvectors. But yeah like you said, charts make things simpler. Especially if your math is streamlined through matrices eh

[–]Aerik -1 points0 points ago

actually it seems whenever people do substitution or integrating by parts or partial fractions that includes functions... u and v are used all the freakin time. There's no telling what u and v really mean. Perhaps if we saw the equation in vector form we'd have more of a clue, but no such luck.

Why is alimony or child support based on the paying party's income... by ehtheismin AskFeminists

[–]Aerik 1 point2 points ago

It's not always based on the paying party's income. Pretty much every judge does it based on local convention. Which is just bad policy.

Sometimes judges demand a fixed amount.

sometimes judges demand a fixed rate.

sometimes it's a poorly calculated progressive rate.

And sometimes judge demand that the amount be such that the child's quality of life be above some minimum standard, which is of course subject to the judge's biased perception of cost of living (and let's face it, our establishment thinks the rich are too poor and the poor too rich, so it's probably going to be fucked up).

Then sometimes a judge may demand that that quality of life be what the judge perceives to be what it would have been had the parents not divorced and separated.

John, you know very well they're not fundraising for the splc. One person a a few persons saying "hey I like to donate, how about you?" is not nearly the same as an official fundraising campaign. So there's you lying.

So Artie gave them a shout out. So what? Unlike r/MR, radhub hasn't even done anything yet. They have a conference. Whoa, more talking to each other. So much more dangerous than a forum, right?

Meanwhile in the past r/MR has doc-dropped dozens of people, which AVFM does regularly. You yourself have offered cash awards for the doxxing of a few people. AVFM has in the past asked readers to hire private detectives to dig up dirt to harass an anti-violence speaker named Josh Jasper. You glorify violence against women when your blog posts pictures of bleeding and bruised women accompanying posts about how you're going to "fuck their shit up" (their being feminists).. which is what elam said as he created register-her.com. So he actually says he wants the doxxing to fuck people's shit up, which means he wants the data to be used.

"if you see a jezebel in the road, run the bitch over" (twice)

bash a violent bitch month

The time pn6 lead r/MR in joining glenn sacks in making vile, bigoted, and threatening phone calls to the financiers of a domestic violence shelter b/c you didn't like a bus ad they made. The irony there being, the shelter helped men equally as women, so you were harming men in order to harm women.

pn6 applauded the hacking of a blog called "biting beaver," r/MR supported the hackery.

One of your mods frequently calls for violence against women and transsexuals, you ignore it.

You sent harassing and threatening emails to a woman blogger who commented about men going into the bathroom with kids in daycare.

You yourself advocate not helping women being raped even while you witness it personally.

You advocate finding all men accused of rape not-guilty in court, even if you know they're guilty.

and so much more you have done to real people with real tactics

Including today in which you said you oppose homophobia, at least against gay male MRAs. And then you linked to bernard chapin being extremely bigoted against lesbians, calling them "lesbobos" and stereotyping them and hating on them. And we all know that this kind of bullying leads to real harm, the disproportionate suicide ratings for gay folk.

what has radhub done to anybody besides rant on their website? nothing that compares.

If there's anybody who acts like a cult, it's you.

When anybody does anything like that around a feminist sphere, we call them out. We do not allow the dialogue to continue in our safe spaces, we disavow them, and we explain exactly why they're wrong.

when MRAs are bigots, you just whine "Free speech" and gleefully let them do the work of harassing dissenters out of your spaces for you.

So yeah. We police ourselves. And contrary to what commenter NotC says, I didn't even mention censorship. I was clearly talking about actual confrontations and making real consequences for bigots.

Here's a pathetic attack. by Aerikin againstmensrights

[–]Aerik[S] 2 points3 points ago

[–]NotC 1 point (+1/-0) 1 hour ago

I am sure he actually believes censorship is policing, instead of sweeping it under the rug. Concepts need to be challenged continually or it turns into different levels of doctrine . I am happy there are few bans here and much discussion with people who still profess that pua culture is relevent here, despite the overwhelming rejection and how bad it would look to be associated. We openly discuss viewpoints and that is true policing, not punishing the thoughtcrime of improper indoctrination.

As always, MRAs dont read the words they are criticizing.

I didn't mention banning anybody's comments. Or banning people from events, in the comment they are talking about. Censorship in any form was not brought up.

What I said was that we're policing ourselves when we tell the bigots they are wrong and when we encourage non-bigots not to go to their events, don't give them money, all that sort of stuff. Policing as in, discussing with each other that we should disavow and refuse to support the bigots when we see them That's clearly what I was talking about. I did not say we should ban people, I didn't say to remove any kind of comments.

yet somehow NotC made it about censorship. Bravo, r/MR. Strawmanning me was your first tactic.

so there's been an MRA invasion attempt on my comment. Brilliant.

Look MRAs. All these instances of feminists on reddit and everywhere else decrying radhub and this conference? That's us policing ourselves. So yes, we've actually proven that we in fact do that.

You, however, cry "Free speech" to any advice concerning distancing yourselves from the bigots in the MRM. You refuse to police yourselves.
